Above it, green, yellow, blue, and dark tones condense into a vertical presence. Something seems to be taking shape – perhaps a figure, a landscape, a memory of something once seen. Yet as soon as a form appears to settle, it dissolves back into color.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe painting belongs to the \u003cstrong\u003eoutputs of the Schmiertafel series\u003c\/strong\u003e. Its starting point is astonishingly precise. Its result is not.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003e30 minutes of preparation. 1–2 minutes of painting.\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eColors, tools and process are prepared for roughly half an hour. The actual painting, by contrast, takes only about \u003cstrong\u003eone to two minutes\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn this brief moment, the balance between planning and happening tips over. Color meets color, movements overlap, traces disappear beneath new traces. What was previously fixed suddenly becomes just one possibility among others.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePreparation creates order. The act of painting throws it off balance.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd somewhere in between, something comes into being that was not there before.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003ePrompt, process, output\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne conceptual starting point of the Schmiertafel is communication with systems like \u003cstrong\u003eChatGPT\u003c\/strong\u003e: We formulate an input, a system processes it – and something comes back.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis seemingly simple movement becomes painting in the Schmiertafel. Here, too, there is an input. Here, too, there is a process. And in the end, an output.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYet between beginning and end lies an area that cannot be fully controlled. Material, speed, chance and decision interlock. The result follows its starting point – and moves away from it at the same time.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePerhaps this is precisely where the true subject of the outputs lies: \u003cstrong\u003ein the small unknown stretch between what is put in and what comes back.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2 class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\"\u003eOriginal paintings by Mark Hellbusch\n\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eOutput 1\u003c\/em\u003e is a one-of-a-kind original from my studio in Wiesbaden.
