The colors lie over one another in open fields, interrupted by red, orange, small light traces, and a dark concentration at the center. Some areas appear almost calm, others like deposits of a very rapid process.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFrom a distance, the color fields merge into a peculiar spatial depth. Up close, this coherence dissolves again. What remains are color, material, overlays, and individual traces – some clearly visible, others almost vanished.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe painting seems to be organizing itself without ever fully settling.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eHalf an hour of preparation for a few minutes of painting\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe outputs of the \u003cem\u003eSchmiertafel\u003c\/em\u003e series arise from a deliberately contradictory working process. Colors, tools and procedure are prepared for around half an hour. For the actual painting of the canvas, only about \u003cstrong\u003eone to two minutes\u003c\/strong\u003e remain.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis turns the preparation into a kind of guideline. But as soon as the painting process begins, this order changes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn \u003cem\u003eOutput 4\u003c\/em\u003e, this can be seen particularly clearly. Some areas of color remain, others are shifted or layered over. Small material residues and unexpected color accents are not removed. They are part of what the process has produced.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe painting is prepared – but not fully anticipated.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eWhat happens between input and result?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe term output comes from a world in which we are used to entering something and receiving an answer. Working with ChatGPT also initially follows this seemingly simple principle: prompt, processing, output.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe \u003cem\u003eSchmiertafel\u003c\/em\u003e translates this idea into an analogue, material process.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut paint does not follow instructions. It runs, adheres, mixes, resists. Speed replaces the possibility of constant correction. The result still carries the original intention within it, but is no longer identical with it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis creates an in-between space between input and result.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePerhaps the painting begins right there.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eOriginal painting by Mark Hellbusch\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eOutput 4\u003c\/em\u003e is a unique original from my studio in Wiesbaden.
