Light tones, ocher, red, and an almost black central zone meet turquoise and green.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe grid gives the painting a clear order. At the same time, irregularities, shifts and small traces of color from the rapid painting process remain visible.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eHalf an hour of preparation for a few minutes of painting\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe outputs of the \u003cem\u003eSchmiertafel\u003c\/em\u003e series arise from a deliberately contradictory working process. Colors, tools and procedure are prepared for around half an hour. For the actual painting of the canvas, only about \u003cstrong\u003eone to two minutes\u003c\/strong\u003e remain.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe more precisely the initial order is prepared, the more visible the deviations that arise during painting become. Especially in \u003cem\u003eOutput 5\u003c\/em\u003e, two things therefore collide directly: the prepared grid and what the paint makes of it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe order is predetermined. The result is not.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eWhat happens between input and result?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe term output comes from a world in which we are used to entering something and receiving an answer. Working with ChatGPT also initially follows this seemingly simple principle: prompt, processing, output.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe \u003cem\u003eSchmiertafel\u003c\/em\u003e translates this idea into an analogue, material process.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut paint does not follow instructions. It adheres, mixes, is shifted or comes to a halt in unexpected places. The brief painting time allows only limited corrections. What becomes visible in the end follows the original plan – but not completely.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBetween plan and result a gap remains.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAnd it is precisely this gap that belongs to the painting.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eOriginal painting by Mark Hellbusch\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eOutput 5\u003c\/em\u003e is a one-of-a-kind original from my studio in Wiesbaden.
