Pink, orange, yellow, turquoise, blue and green appear in individual fields, overlap and blur at their edges.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA grid-like order remains visible, but is repeatedly interrupted by the fast painting process. Clear color fields and blurred traces exist simultaneously.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eHalf an hour of preparation. A few minutes of painting.\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe outputs of the \u003cem\u003eSchmiertafel\u003c\/em\u003e series arise from an unusual relationship between preparation and execution. Colours, tools and sequence are prepared for roughly half an hour. The actual painting process then takes only about \u003cstrong\u003eone to two minutes\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn \u003cem\u003eOutput 7\u003c\/em\u003e, the order is already laid out before the first application of paint. Yet while painting, the individual areas begin to shift and connect with one another. Color comes to a halt, is carried further, or is overlaid by another.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe plan remains recognizable, but it does not have the final say.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eOrder and loss of control arise here from the very same process.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eWhat happens between input and result?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne conceptual starting point of the \u003cem\u003eSchmiertafel\u003c\/em\u003e is communication with systems like ChatGPT: A prompt is followed by a process and finally an output.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn painting, a similar sequence can be created – only its outcome is not predictable. The initial situation is prepared, but in the few minutes of execution, speed, material, and immediate decisions take over part of the control.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFrom a predetermined order, something emerges that was not visible before.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe output responds to the prompt – but in its own way.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePerhaps it is precisely the deviation that is the real answer.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eOriginal painting by Mark Hellbusch\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eOutput 7\u003c\/em\u003e is a unique original from my studio in Wiesbaden.
