RE 31 – When color continues to live
“RE 31” is a work that emerged out of movement. Color was not applied to fill an image, but to accompany a process. In this continued life of color – in overlapping, wiping away, and starting anew – an independent pictorial form has developed.

The making of RE 31: Experiment as carrier
During experimental working phases, the surface served as a place of transition. Layers of paint were dragged, blurred and interrupted again. What remained was not a random product, but a visible imprint of the working process itself.
“RE 31” emerged from these remnants – as a conscious decision not to correct what had been lived, but to preserve it.
RE 31 – Color, Surface, Tension
Measuring 40 × 30 cm, “RE 31” has more space than many small-format works in the series without losing any of its concentration. A warm, rosé-colored ground carries overlying color fields in green, blue and yellow tones. The gestures remain visible, the transitions open.
The painting appears both calm and full of energy – as if it were holding movement in a fixed state.
A painting between setting and letting happen
“RE 31” moves between conscious decision and the moment that simply happens. It is not a painting that wants to be explained, but one that wants to be perceived. Its experimental origin remains palpable without being obtrusive.
The result is a work that remains open – to gaze, space and individual interpretation.
Part of the series “Reste eines Experiments”
Within the series, “RE 31” stands for those works in which color does not end but continues to resonate. Removed from the context of the studio, the painting asserts its own presence – quiet, direct and unadorned.
