Abstract art opens up pictorial spaces that are not defined by representational motifs but arise from color, structure and movement. In my abstract paintings, forms and color fields develop from experimental processes, from overlays of paint, from traces of earlier works and from spontaneous painterly decisions.
Many of these works arise from engaging with material and color themselves. Paint residues, layers, and overpainting become part of the image process and shape new compositions. In this way, abstract pictorial worlds emerge that remain open to different interpretations.
Some of these works were created in series, for example in the multi-layered color structures of the Organic Grounds series. Other works develop from fragments, overlays or from the connection of color and symbolism, as in the palette and paint-box series.
Abstract art allows for a direct encounter with color and structure. Without predetermined motifs, pictorial spaces emerge that reveal themselves anew with each viewing and can have a lasting impact on a room’s atmosphere.
Abstract painting as an open pictorial space
Abstract painting enables a special freedom in dealing with color and form. Lines, color fields and structures often develop from spontaneous processes. This creates images that convey both movement and depth and that do not commit to a single, fixed meaning.
Color as the starting point of painting
In many of these works, color itself becomes the starting point of the image. Series such as Organic Grounds and The Paint Box develop their compositions from color layers, overlays and spontaneous painterly decisions. This creates abstract pictorial spaces that oscillate between calm, movement and chromatic tension.
The following works present a selection of abstract paintings from various series of my practice. They offer insight into different painterly processes and into the diversity of abstract pictorial worlds.
