By the Pool – Colors like sunlight on water
A square paint-box painting full of luminosity
“By the Pool” (80 × 80 × 4 cm, 2013) radiates summery lightness. At the top, bright color discs in red, orange, yellow, and white line up like reflections of the sun. Below them, a band of blue and green tones evokes bodies of water. In the lower part, larger color fields in turquoise, pink, yellow, and black dominate, grounding the composition and lending it depth.
The surface is impasto, full of visible traces and spontaneous gestures – a play of structure and movement that calls to mind sparkling pool water in sunlight. “By the Pool” is a work that conveys joie de vivre, warmth, and lightness.
Sold – and now in private ownership
This work from the series “The Paint Box” has found its place in a private collection. “At the Pool” is exemplary of Mark Hellbusch’s ability to stage color as an experience – atmospheric, vibrant and at the same time structured.
