A summer dream in paintbox form

“The Flying Summer” (approx. 110 × 80 × 3 cm, mixed media, 2021) is a work full of movement and airy color accents. You see bright, radiant yellows and oranges, softly blending shades of blue, and strong accents in pink and turquoise. The upper part of the composition shows round color discs that float above the painting like solar lights, beneath them smooth areas and mixed fields that flow into one another in gentle transitions – a feeling of flight, of summer wind and free expansion.

The structure of the paint box (with its round and angular elements) combines geometry and cheerfulness; the surface appears impasto, with visible traces of paint and palette-knife movements. This is not a painting that wants to stand still – it lives, it breathes, it recalls summer days, lightness, and those moments when sky, light, and warmth blend together.

Sold – and now in private ownership

This work belongs to the series “The Paintbox” and is now in a private collection. It is a prime example of how Mark Hellbusch plays with color and form to create visual lightness – while always maintaining a strong, structured component.
