The crater from above – an abstract picture made from paint residues.

The abstract painting “Field of Mars IV” measures 40 x 30 cm, is made of paint residues and binder, and shows a landscape with a crater from above. The paint residues used for this painting are colorful. Acrylic paints, oil paints, and leftover varnish interact with one another in the most diverse variations of color, shape, and size. The sizes of the paint residues range from very fine dust to paint chunks of approx. 0.7 cm in diameter. It is the differences in size of the paint residues that allow for a composition. In this way, a crater emerges in the landscape. Below are some key facts about the painting.

Buy a small-format artwork made from paint residues for a special ambience.

The small-format artwork “Field of Mars IV” makes the strongest impression in a bright room. The unusual spatiality – the haptics (three-dimensional) combined with the contrasts (two-dimensional) – creates a very special, highly contemporary Ambience. From a distance, the artwork initially appears earthy or sandy. However, the crater’s interior is already clearly recognizable due to its subtler texture. It only arises at that point through the change in size of the paint residues. If you take a few steps toward the painting, you will notice that all the paint residues are equally colorful. Ideally, you would buy this painting for a well-lit niche in the room.

The Field of Mars pieces also present well in series.

A contemporary artwork of this kind – an abstract landscape with crater – is not accessible to everyone. Nevertheless, the result of experimental painting can spark curiosity. The juxtaposition of old (leftover paint) and new (painting) and the title “Field of Mars” – incidentally a place of political confrontation in ancient Rome – gives rise to associations around the terms “Mars” and “field.”

The presentation of the artwork is authentic, but not perfect.

The photos you see above were taken by me—as best as I could. Since I'm not a professional photographer, the colors you see may differ slightly from the original. The lighting or resolution could certainly be better here and there. I strive to present an authentic image of the artworks.

The photos showing the painting in a room were created using the "Smartist" app. This app can frame paintings and allows for a clean, stylish presentation in different spaces. The size ratio of painting to room is shown exactly.

But you are very welcome to visit me in the studio or at the ARTLET if you would like to take a look at the original.
