This art already carries tension in its very name. The Earth’s outer neighboring planet was associated with the god of war because of its red coloration. With their surfaces made of dried paint residues and chunks from the palette, these works also visually recall the geology of the planet Mars.
The word “field,” for example in the sense of a field of soil, play, or activity, can also be read as a synonym for order. This gives rise to the title of this series: "Field of Mars".
Arrangements of paint residues result in abstract landscape images.
Artworks from the Field of Mars series show abstract landscape images. The modern, often small-format paintings are landscapes – or sections of them – seen from a bird’s-eye view. From a great distance they appear earthy. Only on closer inspection does one recognize the many bright colors of the dried paints.
"The idea came while sweeping the studio: something new from ruins. By crushing and shattering old paint residues, I create fields that recall weathered Mars. On them, delicate new orders develop."
The Origin of the Field of Mars series.
A paint palette fell and shattered into many pieces. While sweeping them together, the idea arose to create abstract paintings from the leftover paint. For my Field of Mars paintings, I have since been using old palettes from my painting students and smashing them. This produces paint remnants of various sizes, which are then sorted by size: from fine dust to paint chunks up to 1 cm, which are selected for the paintings.
The ambience is modern, the inspiration abstract – paintings from the "Field of Mars" series.
The canvases are coated with binder. They are then worked on experimentally, meaning the leftover paint is scattered, sieved, thrown, and also placed onto the canvas – until a landscape becomes discernible. In this way, something new is created through the destruction of something old: a delicate landscape as an abstract painting. From cause and effect a title also emerged: “Field of Mars.”

If you are looking for a painting that is both contemporary and restrained, the “Field of Mars” works are an excellent choice. My Field of Mars artworks are available in different versions and can even be wonderfully combined with one another. Various formats allow you to arrange these very delicate, contemporary paintings in any space as you wish. The small formats fit well into niches, but also impress when hung painting next to painting in vertical or horizontal rows. The abstract landscape paintings are best chosen so that wave structures, crater-like formations, or beach-like artworks alternate.
