Abstract painting in horizontal format

The horizontal format opens up an especially wide pictorial space. Through the orientation of the image, a calm, expansive composition emerges in which colour, structure and movement can unfold across a broad surface.

In abstract painting, the landscape format allows for a special form of image composition. Colour fields can expand, structures develop a horizontal movement, and individual colour accents enter into a dynamic relationship with one another.

Horizontal paintings often appear particularly harmonious in rooms with wide wall surfaces and are well suited for positions above sofas, sideboards or long wall sections.

Horizontal pictorial spaces in my series

Landscape-format paintings emerge in various series of my work. Particularly in series such as Field of Mars, in experimental works from Organic Grounds, or in color-intensive compositions from the paint box, pictorial spaces develop that gain a special sense of expansiveness through their horizontal orientation.

The landscape format often supports a landscape-like perception of the pictorial space.
