Some paintings only unfold their full impact on a truly large scale. Monumental formats open up a space of their own for the image and change how the painting is perceived. Color, structure, and movement are not only viewed, but experienced physically.

Very large abstract paintings can completely define a wall and themselves become an architectural element in the space. From a distance they often appear calm and cohesive, while up close a multitude of color layers, traces, and details become visible.

The works gathered here belong to my largest formats. They exceed a total dimension of 550 cm and thereby develop a special presence in the space. In them, painting processes, movements of color, and structures combine to form large-format pictorial spaces.

These works arise primarily in experimental painting processes in which movement, color, and material have a particularly strong impact. In monumental formats, these processes become visible and physically tangible.
