Abstract paintings in portrait format
The vertical format fundamentally changes the perception of a painting. Through the vertical orientation, a different dynamic arises in the pictorial space: movements appear ascending, lines develop an upward or downward direction, and areas of color can generate a special spatial tension.
In abstract painting, the vertical format opens up its own visual language. The gaze moves differently across the surface than it does with square or horizontal formats. Many paintings therefore appear more focused or develop a clear vertical movement.
Portrait-format paintings are particularly suitable for narrow wall surfaces, high rooms or architectural situations in which an image can take up a vertical structure.
Vertical picture spaces in my series
Vertical formats emerge in various groups of works in my painting. Especially in series such as Redwind, Out of the Light, or individual experimental works, paintings arise whose structure and movement of color are particularly supported by the vertical format.
The portrait format creates pictorial spaces in which color, movement, and structure unfold along a clear direction.
