The color throw: between abstract painting and design.

The round canvas of the painting "Splash 18" has a diameter of 80 cm. The painting consists of a mixed media technique. Both acrylic and lacquer paints were used. The modern approach comes partly from the use of a “painting machine” - a modified drill - and partly from experimenting with the color throw. The result is initially design, which only becomes "abstract" through the reference to the work process.

Colorful paints are thrown onto the canvas simultaneously.

The round canvas was initially primed in black. Then colorful paints - partly simultaneously - were thrown onto the canvas: red, yellow, violet, orange, white, green, pink, blue, and finally black. The rotation of the canvas causes slight distortions of the color stripes and spots, as well as the creation of (outward-directed) color lines that mix with the color stripes and spots.

Abstract-looking painting or design?

The painting "Splash 18" initially appears abstract. However, "abstract" is a flexible term that is more related to the work process here. For me personally, the result of theshort, entertaining experimentis paramount. Besides the joy of implementation, during the painting process I engage with form and color compositions, breaks, and dynamics. This engagement can traditionally be associated with design.

Since a lot can go wrong while experimenting, I often start anew - and only get a little annoyed....

Decorate your living space or practice with the lightness of a Splash painting.

The Splash painting emerged from experimental painting but creates a pleasant, very positive atmosphere. The lightness is primarily achieved through the elegance and grace of the forms and colors. Thus, various spaces can be decorated with paintings that sit between abstract art and design.

The Splash paintings are round and relatively light. To hang them, you only need a nail in the wall. If you are interested in multiple paintings, you can playfully arrange them in rows or even clusters.
