Violet is one of the colours with a particular depth. In painting it can appear calm and intense at the same time. Depending on how it interacts with other colours, pictorial spaces emerge that either develop a concentrated atmosphere or possess a strong energetic presence.

In my work, the effect of violet arises in different ways. Sometimes a violet ground forms the starting point of a painting, on which further layers of color develop. In other works, the color only emerges in the course of the painting process itself – through overlays of red, blue, and other hues.

In this way, violet can appear both as the dominant color of a painting and as a complex color depth within multi-layered painting.

Violet color spaces in my series

Violet color effects appear in various groups of works in my painting. Especially in experimental pieces, in color-intensive series such as Farbkasten and in individual works from Splash and Redwind, pictorial spaces emerge in which violet tones play a central role.

Through layers, leftover paint, and overlaps, complex color structures emerge in which violet becomes visible as an independent color.
