Fossil technique with tactile texture

The painting “Redwind and Buffalo” from 2005 (50 x 60 cm) shows how the “Redwind” series does not work exclusively with strong reds, but also opens up deeper, earthy color worlds. Here, brown tones, black, and broken whites dominate, which, through the fossil painting technique, acquire an almost stone-like surface. Imprints of leaves and twigs in the ground layer create relief structures that look like fossilized traces of nature.

The buffalo as central motif

At the center appears the figure of a buffalo, powerful and at the same time emerging from the very substance of the surface. The motif feels raw and archaic – as if rising from the depths of the earth or from humanity’s collective memory. This depiction recalls cave paintings and the earliest attempts by humans to capture animals in images.

Impact and atmosphere

The predominantly dark color palette lends the work a mysterious, almost mythical aura. Instead of the typical red glow of the series, this painting opens a view into the shadow side of the savannah – dust, heat, darkness. The fine structures and layered glazes make the surface shimmer with life, so that, the longer you look, the more forms and textures you discover.
