Wildebeests in the glow of Africa
The painting “Redwind and Wildebeests II” (2005) shows two gnus (wildebeests) silhouetted against a glowing red landscape. Thanks to the vertical format and tight composition, the animals appear monumental, almost like primeval apparitions.
Color intensity and expression
The dominant color is a bright, deep red, broken up by dark and blue accents. This high-contrast painting conveys the energy and drama of African scenes. The animals appear both real and mythical, as symbols of strength, endurance, and survival on the savannah.
Fossil technique – painting with texture
As with all Redwind works, the fossil painting technique is defining: tactile surfaces, sanded glazes and embedded textures create depth and movement. This produces an archaic, almost cave-like effect.
