Small surface – big presence
Field of Mars XCII measures only 30 × 24 cm, yet it unfolds a surprisingly intense impact. The painting is traversed by finely structured color fragments in predominantly earthy and muted tones – including red, brown, turquoise, ocher and occasional light accents. From a distance, the color field appears almost monochrome – only on closer inspection does a dense, finely tuned texture reveal itself.
Textural art from leftover paint – completely without brushes
The picture surface was not painted, but built up: layer by layer from real paint remnants – dust, crumbs, splinters. Each tiny piece is the result of an earlier creative process. This creates a visual field with tactile qualities. The surface appears almost grainy and recalls sediments or compacted soil – an aesthetic play between order and chaos, color field and sculpture.
Ideal for small spaces with a design focus
Field of Mars XCII is ideally suited for spaces where a calm yet characterful artistic statement is desired – such as hallways, studies, entrance areas, or combined hangings on gallery walls. Its compact size makes it highly versatile, while its textured presence lends any room depth and individuality.
Reduction as expressive power
Mark Hellbusch’s "Field of Mars" works are not conventional paintings – they demand to be viewed up close. In particular, Field of Mars XCII proves how much energy, history, and expression can be conveyed even on the smallest surface. It is not loud – but unmistakable. Not a work that reveals itself at first glance – and precisely for that reason it leaves a lasting impression.
