Bob and Chris – Voices in competition
Two figures between expression and dissolution
The work “Bob and Chris” (120 × 170 cm, 2002) is a large-format painting from the Hunters series. Two figures appear side by side here, their faces expressively distorted, the eyes exaggerated, and the mouths heightened in a strong red.
The depiction alludes to the constant talking, speaking and communicating that becomes the central symbol of this series. While the bodies in black and white clothing remain schematic, the painterly energy focuses on the sensory organs – eyes and mouth – which embody the core of competition: perception and communication.
“Bob and Chris” highlights the collective aspect of the series Hunters: not only the individual, but also the interaction between several people is at the center here – a condensation of presence, pressure, and decay.
