When green becomes a stage for the forces of nature

“Paul” (125 × 130 cm, 2022) is a painting that doesn’t make a loud entrance – and yet fills the entire room. Layered shades of green spread across the canvas, sometimes light, sometimes dark, glazed over one another. They merge into a composition reminiscent of the shadows of an approaching storm front.

From afar, the areas appear calm and expansive; as you move closer, a vibrant play of textures and glazes unfolds. In this way, “Paul” shows nature in its dual character: powerful, dynamic, at times even threatening – and at the same time of quiet beauty.

Between abstraction and the concrete

The series In the End Green takes its titles from first names – as does “Paul.” This naming is no coincidence: first names recall not only people, but also weather phenomena. Low-pressure systems are called “Paul,” “Anna,” or “Petra” – just like the paintings. In this way, the seemingly abstract is directly connected with something concrete, almost everyday.

Presentation with radiance

For the fine structures and the depth of the colors to unfold, “Paul” needs good light. A bright wall or a directed spotlight makes the greenish surface light up vividly – elegant, modern, almost floating.

The priming was created from thick layers of acrylic paint into which leaves and twigs were embedded. Sanded, sealed, and finally reworked with oil paints, a tactile surface remains that incorporates nature itself into the painting.
