The Intern – Expressive portrait in competition
Work details
Distorted perception and expressive sense organs
The work “The Intern” (110 × 100 cm, 2002) is one of the early paintings in the Hunters series. It depicts the inner tension of a person in the marketplace – shaped by restless perception, communication pressure, and the urge to assert oneself.
The expressively distorted eyes stand as a symbol of constant vigilance and the incessant “looking everywhere”. The repeatedly emphasized mouth alludes to the overlay of speech and sales – a sensory organ that here becomes a symbol of competition.
With strong reds, deep shadows, and sharply contoured facial features, the painting creates an atmosphere of unrest and intensity. “The Intern” is a powerful example of how the Hunters series artistically interprets the relationship between individual presence and social competition.
Sold – and now in private ownership
This work is now in a private collection. It is part of the Hunters series, created in Berlin since 2002, which features expressive portraits of people “in the market.”
