Animals – Animal motifs in contemporary painting

Animal motifs between figure and painting

Animals appear in my painting as a special form of pictorial figure. They do not appear as naturalistic depictions, but as fragments, silhouettes or suggested shapes within an open pictorial space.

Between color, structure, and movement, images emerge in which animal figures become part of the painting. The figure merges with layers of paint, traces, and gestural movements, while remaining deliberately poised between recognizability and abstraction.

Animal motifs in my series

Animal figures appear particularly in series and works from Aus dem Licht as well as in pieces from the series Redwind. In these paintings, animal motifs emerge from painterly processes and develop their own presence within the pictorial space.
