The Landscape as an Experiment.
"Field of Mars LI" measures 30 x 24 cm, is made from leftover paint and emerged from an experiment. The paint remnants used for this painting are colorful. Acrylics, oil paints and lacquer residues interact with one another in endlessly varied combinations of color, shape and size. The sizes of the paint remnants range from very fine dust to chunks of paint with a diameter of about 0.2 cm. It is the differences in size between the paint remnants that make a composition possible – in this case, a landscape with a subtle crater seen from a bird’s-eye view.
An abstract painting made from leftover paint.
From a distance, the work initially appears to depict an earthy or sandy, beach-like surface. As you take a few steps toward the painting, you realize that the painting is colorful and made up of small paint remnants. The abstract painting becomes more concrete with prolonged viewing: in your mind, wind, water and eventually the morphology of a crater in the landscape emerge.
The small-format landscape for an inspiring atmosphere at home.
“Field of Mars LI” is a small picture. It works best in a small room, in a hallway, on a staircase or in a niche. The unusual spatiality – the tangible haptics (three-dimensional) combined with the contrasts (two-dimensional) – together with the simple composition creates a very original and interesting ambience that can only be fully explored over time. The spatial and compositional effect is extremely subtle, so that a very fine, elegant and stimulating aura emanates from this picture.

The “Marsfelder” look very elegant in vertical or horizontal rows. In this way, even larger spaces can be decorated with the small-format Marsfelder. For pictures that hang side by side, it is important to note that difference is key. A crater that appears yellow-brown from a distance, between beach-like reddish wave structures and a grayish-looking whirlpool, is more inspiring to the eye than several craters of the same size next to each other.

These can quickly be overlooked as mere patterns. The price is also interesting: The paintings on the theme "Field of Mars" are not cheap, but in relation to their quality they are extremely inexpensive. For one person, this means a relatively low-risk entry into the world of contemporary art. For another, perhaps the opportunity to make even smaller rooms modern, interesting and affordable. With this kind of art you make a quiet exclamation mark. The paint remnants alone, as the defining element of the image, give your interior something very original. Good to know.
The special adhesive for cotton and the binder used for these experiments ensure that the paint residues adhere very firmly to the canvas. If individual paint residues should still fall off – for example during transport or due to curious children’s fingers – it is not a problem: All “Field of Mars” paintings consist of several layers of glued paint residues, so that the canvas remains covered even in the case of minor damage.
I always strive to present an authentic picture of my work on the website. The photos of the paintings are taken in the studio or next door in the living room. THowever, the colors you see on your monitor may slightly differ from the actual colors on the painting. The images presenting the painting in the room were generated using the 'Smartist' app. This app displays paintings in the exact correct proportions to the room and can also make artworks appear framed in any way you like.
