An experiment on canvas.

The experimental landscape painting “Marsfeld LXXXVI” measures 70 x 50 cm and consists of paint residues glued onto canvas with binder. The paint residues used for this painting are colorful. Acrylic paints, oil paints and varnish residues interact on the canvas in the most diverse variations of color, shape and size. The sizes of the paint residues range from very fine dust to paint chunks of approx. 0.5 cm in diameter. It is the differences in size of the paint residues that make a composition possible. Below are some key details about the painting.

Contemporary art from leftover paint.

From a distance, the work at first appears to depict an earthy or sandy, beach-like surface. As you take a few steps towards the painting, you realise that the work is completely colourful and consists of small paint remnants. The abstract painting becomes more concrete the longer you look at it: in your mind, wind, water and eventually the morphology of a beach emerge.

A painting from the “Field of Mars” series for a truly special ambience.

"Field of Mars LXXXVI" is most impressive in a bright room. The unusual spatiality – the haptics (three-dimensional) combined with the contrasts (two-dimensional) – creates a special ambience that can only be explored gradually. The spatial effect is extremely subtle, so that a very fine, elegant and stimulating aura emanates from this painting.

Field of Mars works can also be presented in series.

Good to know.

Binder as adhesive.

The special adhesive for cotton and the binder used for these experiments ensure that the paint remnants adhere very firmly to the canvas. If individual paint remnants should still come off – for example during transport or thanks to curious children's fingers – it’s not a big problem: all “Field of Mars” paintings consist of several layers of glued paint remnants, so the canvas remains covered even in the case of minor damage.

Paintings on the website.

I always strive to present an authentic representation of my work on the website. The photographs of the paintings are taken in the studio or outdoors. Thowever, the colors you see on your monitor may differ slightly from the actual colors of the painting. The images showing the painting in a room were created using the “Smartist” app. This app presents paintings in the exact correct scale for the space and can also display artworks with any frame you like.
