Elephants in wide open landscape – poetic animal painting

| /

Harmony between animal and nature

The painting “Elephants and Landscape” (2006) depicts a group of elephants moving along a watercourse. In the horizontal composition, the animals appear like shadowy figures gently embedded in the landscape. The water’s reflection enhances the impression of stillness and calm.

Fossil painting and color effect

The typical “fossil” technique, which works with texture, glazes, and sanding marks, creates an almost archaic pictorial effect. Delicate red and brown tones overlap with earthy nuances and create an atmosphere reminiscent of prehistoric paintings. The elephants seem embedded in the memory of a landscape, as if they were stepping from the past into the present.

Symbolism of the composition

Elephants stand for wisdom, community and groundedness. In this depiction they do not appear monumental, but poetic – as bearers of calm and continuity. The picture surface invites the viewer to switch between reality and abstraction and to feel the deep connection between animal and nature.
