This work from the Redwind series shows a kudu in the forest, embedded in an intense color spectrum of reds and browns. The “fossil” painting technique with translucent layers, sanding marks, and a textured ground lends the image a special tactility and depth. The outlines of the animal appear as if unearthed from the soil itself – mysterious, archaic, and full of symbolism.

About the artist Mark Hellbusch
I have been a freelance painter since 1997 and have worked with a wide variety of themes in painting. While until 2007 I was occupied almost exclusively with expressive painting, today my focus lies more on experimental art.
