Four-leaf clover as a symbol of hope
The four-leaf clover is one of the best-known symbols of good luck. Almost everyone knows its meaning, even though only a few have ever found one. In Glücksklee I this familiar sign appears reduced to its simplest form.
It is precisely this simplicity that makes the motif interesting. The symbol remains recognizable while its meaning becomes more open. Between hope, memory and chance, an image emerges that asks more than it explains.
Green painting with quiet presence
Various shades of green, turquoise, and yellow define the work. The color fields appear light and transparent, while traces of the painting process remain visible. Some areas seem confidently placed, others appear provisional or almost accidental.
This creates a calm kind of painting that does not impose itself and can therefore be looked at for a long time.
Small formats, big pictorial ideas
At 40 × 30 cm it belongs Glücksklee I to the smaller works in the series. Like a study, the painting focuses on the essentials. The reduced size intensifies the immediate impact of the symbol and directs the gaze to color, line, and composition.
The work is particularly suitable for smaller rooms, niches, or as part of a larger group of paintings.
Smear Board – Familiar signs reconsidered
The series Smear board is concerned with generally familiar pictorial signs such as flowers, smileys, trees, or figures. They are simple forms that everyone recognizes and whose meaning seems fixed.
In these paintings, the form remains while its execution becomes increasingly uncertain. Color no longer follows the expected paths, decisions become visible, corrections leave new traces. From something familiar, a state emerges between order and dissolution.
The works are about the fragility of simple certainties. They show how even stable signs can lose their self-evidence and how small shifts can open up a new, more open pictorial space.
Original painting by Mark Hellbusch
Glücksklee I is a unique original from my studio in Wiesbaden near Frankfurt. Like all works in the series, the painting emerges in an open process between symbol, color and experimental painting.
