“Still Life with Flowers” – Abstraction between colour and memory

With “Still Life with Flowers”, Mark Hellbusch transforms the paint box into a vibrant, multi-layered wall sculpture. The familiar motif becomes the basis of an open, abstract visual language. The title deliberately alludes to a classical genre of painting without depicting it – instead, a field of tension arises between expectation and free interpretation.

Color and composition

The composition is characterized by intense, overlapping layers of color, spontaneous traces and high‑contrast areas. Strong tones stand alongside lightened, partially reworked sections. This creates a dynamic structure that oscillates between order and dissolution, continually redirecting the viewer’s gaze.

Material and construction

The work is based on a constructive combination of canvas, wooden slats and framing elements. The individual sections were built up and worked on in layers, creating a relief-like surface with real depth. The use of acrylic and oil paints as well as binding agents gives the piece a dense, tactile quality.

Open perception

“Still Life with Flowers” invites individual associations. The combination of object-like structure, experimental painting technique, and the reference in the title opens up a space for reflection in which personal memories and inner images are activated.
