A source of inspiration in art: the colorful paintbox "Stierkampf".
The leaps of thought that the paint box generates as a symbol lead many viewers back to childhood. The title “Stierkampf” (“Bullfight”) is an invitation to steer your own associations in a different direction without losing your personal touch. The paint box, painted in bright colors, becomes a source of inspiration – from concrete to abstract.
The canvas as the basis for the large-format paintbox.
I used acrylic and oil paints, adhesive concrete, glue, and a final varnish for painting the artwork. The oversized paint box was built from wooden strips, cup lids, a canvas, and chipboard. The large-format artwork "Bullfight" measures 110 x 100 x 5 cm and was created in 2012 in Mainz. I first built the paint box using chipboard and different types of slats, partly glued with wood glue and partly screwed together. The small round paint wells are cup lids. The lids were framed with wooden slats of equal height, the resulting gaps were filled with expanding foam and sealed with cardboard before being glued onto the chipboard. To create a surface as realistic as possible, the paint wells and paint-box compartments are coated with Primed with adhesive concrete and thick layers of acrylic paint done. Subsequently, the primer was "sealed" with glue.
Abstract painting on the reddish paint box: painting or sculpture?
With my experimental painting on the oversized paint box, modern, abstract object art is created: a painted sculpture for the wall and at the same time a painting. Through the juxtaposition of graceful color fields there arise Tensions in Form and Color . On one side, the primary colors yellow, red and blue, accompanied by orange, green, black, pink and white. These colors can be seen in this or a similar form in almost every paint box. On the other side, the "used" paint-box pans, the colorful spaces in between and the reddish border area. The spatial, partly complementary effect of the colors is further enhanced by the shadows cast by the box.
Free abstraction through experimental painting.
The result of experimental painting, the Symbolic Power of the Paint Box as well as the guidance of a title ("Bullfight") invite you to associate freely. When imagination – once set in motion – is stimulated in many different ways in the viewer, a free abstraction of painting emerges.

Useful information on presenting the painting “Stierkampf” (“Bullfight”).
There is no “top” or “bottom”; the painting can be displayed in any orientation. For this reason, “Stierkampf” was signed on the back. The glossy varnish protects the artwork from color changes. If there is a lot of light opposite the painting – for example from a window – I can replace the gloss varnish with a matte varnish. You will achieve optimal presentation if there is space around the painting. The width of the wall surface (including the painting) should be at least 2.5 and at most 5 meters.
