City Limits – figurative composition in faceted painting style
Between body and space
The painting “City Limits” (1988) shows a seated figure dissolved into cubistically fragmented color fields. Golden, ocher areas of the body contrast with cool blue and white tones in the background. This creates a field of tension between human being and urban space – limitation and openness at the same time.
Clarity in the fragment
The geometric fragmentation creates a rhythm of light and shadow. The figure appears vulnerable and at the same time monumental, as if captured at the boundary between inner and outer, city and self.
