A source of inspiration: “Crete” – an abstract painting from the series “The Paint Box.”

The leaps of thought that the paint box as a symbol triggers lead many viewers back to childhood. The title “Crete” is an invitation to steer your own associations in a different direction without losing their personal touch. These inspirations can change over time and develop a great variety: in addition to the title, the Tension fields in form and color, as well as the Symbolic power of the paint box. This turns the paint box into a source of entirely individual inspiration.

Modern painting on a wall object.

With my experimental painting on the oversized paint box, a modern wall sculpture emerges. Through the juxtaposition of graceful color fields, there arise fields of tension in shape and color.. On one side, the warm colors yellow, orange, red, and brown as well as white, and the cool colors green, blue, violet, and black. These colors, in slightly varied form, can be seen on almost every paint box. On the other side, the “used” paint box pans, the colorful spaces in between, and the colored edge area: here white, blue, olive green, sand, and skin tones appear again. The spatial effect of the colors (painting) is further enhanced by the shadows cast by the wall object.

The Canvas as the Basis for the Paint Box

The paint box was built from cotton, plant saucers, and various types of strips. The strips were partially glued to the canvas and in other places fastened with screws. The small round paint pans are plant saucers. They were framed with wooden strips of equal height. The resulting gaps were filled with expanding foam and sealed with cardboard before being glued to the canvas. To create a surface that looks as real as possible, the paint containers and paint-box pans are adhesive concrete and thick layers of acrylic paint. The primer was then "sealed" with glue.

Acrylic and oil paints were used for painting the artwork.

Interesting facts about the presentation of the painting "Crete".

There is no “top” or “bottom”; the painting can be displayed in any orientation. That is why “Crete” has been signed on the back. The glossy varnish protects the painting from colour changes. If there is a lot of light opposite “Crete” – for example from a window – I can replace the gloss varnish with a matte varnish. You will achieve optimal presentation if there is space around the painting, but not too much. The width of the wall surface (including the painting) should be at least 1 metre and at most 2 metres.
