Landscape as experiment.
"Field of Mars LIII" measures 30 x 24 cm, consists of paint remnants, and arose from an experiment. The paint remnants used for this painting are colorful. Acrylic paints, oil paints, and leftover varnish interact with each other in the most diverse variations of color, shape, and size. The sizes of the paint remnants range from very fine dust to paint chunks of about 0.2 cm in diameter. It is the differences in size of the paint remnants that allow for a composition – in this case, a landscape with a subtle crater seen from a bird’s-eye view.
An abstract painting made from paint remnants.
From a distance, the work initially appears to depict a pink, beach‑like surface. As you take a few steps towards the painting, you realize that it is actually more colorful and made up of small remnants of paint. With prolonged viewing, the abstract painting becomes more concrete: in your mind, wind and water emerge and, at some point, the morphology of a crater in the landscape.
An abstract artwork for a niche.
“Field of Mars LIII” is a small painting. It works best in a small room, a hallway, on a staircase or in a niche. The unusual spatiality – the tangible haptics (three-dimensional) combined with the contrasts (two-dimensional) – together with the simple composition creates a very original and interesting ambience that can only be fully explored gradually. The spatial and compositional effect of the abstract artwork is extremely subtle, so that a very fine, elegant and stimulating effect emanates from the painting. The small format works best in a small, bright niche.

The "Fields of Mars" look very elegant in vertical or horizontal rows. This way, even larger spaces can be decorated with the small-format Fields of Mars. When hanging paintings side by side, it's important to note that variety is key. A crater that appears yellow-brown from afar, set among beach-like reddish wave structures and a grayish-looking whirlpool, is more inspiring to the eye than several craters of the same size next to each other.

These can quickly be overlooked as mere patterns. It is also interesting to note the price: The paintings on the theme of “Field of Mars” are not cheap, but in relation to their quality they are extremely inexpensive. For one person, this means a relatively low-risk entry into the world of contemporary art. For another, perhaps the opportunity to design even smaller spaces in a modern, interesting and affordable way. With this kind of art, you set a quiet exclamation mark. The mere use of paint residues as the defining element of the image gives your interior something very original. Do not hesitate to request art consulting from me before you buy paintings.
Good to know.
The special adhesive for cotton and the binder used for these experiments ensure that the leftover paint adheres very well to the canvas. If some paint pieces do fall off—perhaps during transport or due to curious children’s fingers—it’s not a problem: All "Field of Mars" paintings are made up of several layers of glued paint remnants, so the canvas remains covered even if it suffers minor damage.
I always strive to present an authentic image of my works on the website. The photos of the paintings are taken in the studio or next door in the living room. THowever, the colors you see on your monitor may differ slightly from the actual colors of the painting. The images showing the painting in a room were created using the "Smartist" app. This app displays paintings in exactly the right scale for the space and can also show artworks in any frame you like.
