Colour depth and structure in contemporary painting
“Jack” (60 × 80 cm, 2026) is a large-format work from the series “In the End Green”. The painting unfolds across a multi-layered, finely graded surface in which different shades of green combine to create a remarkable color depth.
The painting appears calm and at the same time complex. The transitions are soft, almost flowing, while beneath them a dense structure emerges that gives the work its physical presence. It is precisely this combination of restraint and complexity that creates a special, refined aura.
Subtle dynamism – between relief and recess
At the center of the painting, the color becomes slightly denser, as if an inner pressure were building up there. From this area, the layers seem to move into the surface and dissolve again.
This barely tangible movement is reminiscent of processes known from nature – the slow shifting of air masses, zones of compression and release. Nothing is depicted concretely, and yet there is a sense that something is organizing itself within the surface.
It is precisely this quiet dynamism that lends the painting tension without disturbing its calm.
Green as space – not as color
Here, the green layers of paint do not appear decorative, but spatial. Bright, slightly yellowish areas open up the surface, while deeper, richer greens condense it again.
This creates an interplay of closeness and distance. The color draws the gaze inward and at the same time lets it wander across the surface. The painting thus gains a depth that does not reveal itself immediately, but unfolds over time.
Surface as a carrier of memory
Fine structures, traces, and concentrations run through the canvas. They feel like inscriptions of a process – not set, but emerged.
In some areas these structures become more prominent, in others they almost disappear back into the surface. This creates a balance that is neither completely calm nor restless, but moves in a tense in-between state.
The title “Jack”
The name “Jack” feels clear and direct. It stands in contrast to an image that resists any unambiguous reading.
It is precisely this juxtaposition that heightens perception: the personal encounters something that recalls natural systems more than concrete motifs.
Effect in Space
With its format and color depth, “Jack” has a strong yet understated presence. The painting appears particularly refined when light glides across the surface and reveals the subtle differences in structure and color.
It is suitable for spaces where art is not meant to be loud, but to have a lasting impact – calm, focused, and with a certain natural ease.
