“Jungle” – color as movement and concentration
The work “Jungle” translates the paintbox into a multi‑layered, spatial composition. As part of the series “Der Farbkasten” (The Paintbox), the familiar motif serves as a structural foundation, but is guided in a new, associative direction through its title and color scheme. The reference to nature is not illustrative; it arises from the density, variety and dynamism of the color fields.
Color, structure and dynamism
The composition is defined by an intense interplay of strong and nuanced colors. Contrasts and transitions create fields of tension that oscillate between order and dissolution. The relief-like surface reinforces this impression: light and shadow continuously alter perception and actively integrate the work into the space.
Material and construction
The wall object is based on a combination of canvas, wooden strips, and integrated paint trays. The layered construction creates a sculptural structure that deliberately dissolves the boundary between painting and object. The use of acrylic and oil paints as well as binding agents enables a differentiated, vibrant surface.
Open visual language
“Jungle” is intended as an invitation to free interpretation. The combination of experimental painting, object-like form, and the associations suggested by the title opens up an open mental space in which individual perceptions and memories can unfold.
Presentation in space
The work unfolds its effect particularly well in clearly structured, spacious interiors. The green frame picks up the colour scheme while precisely enclosing the composition. Displaying it with sufficient distance makes it possible to fully grasp the interplay of colour, form and spatial depth.

About the artist Mark Hellbusch
I have been a freelance painter since 1997 and have worked with a wide variety of themes in painting.
