“On the Road” – Movement in the colour space
The work “Unterwegs” (On the Road) is part of the series “Der Farbkasten” (The Paintbox) and translates a familiar motif into an independent, large‑format visual language. The title refers to movement, change and open processes, expanding perception beyond the object itself. The paintbox thus becomes a starting point for individual associations and mental connections.
Construction and materiality
The painting object is based on a combination of canvas, wooden slats and framing elements. The layered construction creates a relief-like surface with real depth. Acrylic and oil paints as well as binding agents were used for the painterly elaboration, resulting in a differentiated and lively structure.
Color, structure, and spatial effect
The composition thrives on the interplay of clear color fields and free, experimental traces. Classic colors of the paintbox relate to individual mixtures and transitions. The physical depth of the object creates real shadows that enhance the color effect and extend the work into the space.
Open interpretation
“Unterwegs” opens up a free space for interpretation. The combination of painting, object, and title invites you to bring in your own experiences and associations. This creates an individual access point between concrete form and abstract perception.
Presentation
The work can be freely oriented and is not bound to a fixed hanging. Displaying it with sufficient distance from its surroundings enhances the spatial effect and allows the interplay of color, form, and light to fully unfold.

About the artist Mark Hellbusch
I have been a freelance painter since 1997 and have worked with a wide variety of themes in painting. While until 2007 I was occupied almost exclusively with expressive painting, today my focus lies more on experimental art.
