When green becomes a stage for the forces of nature
“Paul” (125 × 130 cm, 2022) is a painting that doesn’t make a loud statement—yet it fills the entire room. The canvas is covered in multi-layered shades of green, sometimes light, sometimes dark, glazed over each other. They merge into a composition reminiscent of the shadows of an approaching storm front.
From a distance, the surfaces appear calm and expansive, but up close, a vibrant interplay of structure and glazes unfolds. In this way, “Paul” reveals nature’s dual character: powerful, dynamic, sometimes even threatening—yet at the same time, quietly beautiful.
Between Abstraction and the Concrete
The series In the End Green is titled with first names—just like “Paul.” This is no coincidence: first names not only remind us of people, but also of weather phenomena. Low-pressure systems are called “Paul,” “Anna,” or “Petra”—just like the paintings. This way, the seemingly abstract is immediately connected to something concrete, almost everyday.
Presentation with radiance
For the fine textures and the depth of the colors to come alive, “Paul” needs good lighting. A bright wall or a directed spotlight will make the greenish surface glow—elegant, modern, almost weightless.
The priming was created from thick layers of acrylic paint into which leaves and twigs were embedded. Sanded, sealed, and finally reworked with oil paints, the result is a tactile surface that incorporates nature itself into the painting.
