Expressive painting with oil colors: striking portraits.
The artwork "Tara & Fatima" shows two girls engaged in verbal play. Their heightened sensuality is expressed through the doubling of mouths and eyes. They seem to know “competition” only from games and sports. We perceive this as particularly “beautiful”. The subtle doublings suggest that competition may play a major role later in life. With these portraits, owners and viewers are repeatedly encouraged to reflect on competition. Even playfulness can be part of that discussion.
Preparations for painting
First, a chipboard was primed with cement and given texture. After drying, it was completely coated with a layer of glue and then screwed onto a canvas. This creates a well-protected, unusual surface that can be painted on.
Interesting Facts about "Tara & Fatima"
The portraits "Tara & Fatima" were created in Berlin in 2004. They have no personal meaning for me; rather, as with almost all portraits in the "Hunters" series, they came into my hands by chance. An advertising photo, an information brochure, a report – portraits are shown everywhere. Some of them trigger thoughts in me on the subject of "competition," which I then use in my work.
