Zara – Fragmented Presence
Expressive intensity in the gaze
The work “Zara” (140 × 150 cm, 2004) belongs to the Hunters series and impressively demonstrates the expressive exaggeration of individual sense organs. The fragmented depiction of the face, crisscrossed by painterly lines and fractures, highlights the inner tension between outward appearance and inner experience.
The multiple eyes stand for restless, omnipresent seeing – a metaphor for relentless competition and the search for attention. The slightly distorted lips refer to language and communication as tools of self-assertion.
“Zara” is an intense, large-format portrait that unfolds a strong presence through its dark, almost mysterious palette and expressive structures. It consistently continues the central theme of the series Hunters – the overlaying and overriding of our sensitivity within market dynamics.
