Looking everywhere. Missing nothing. Always one step ahead. The paintings in the Hunters series show people in competition – alert, ambitious and constantly searching for the next advantage. Their exaggerated sensory organs make visible what often remains hidden in everyday life: the hunt for attention, influence and success.
Expressive, mostly large-format portrait painting on the theme of competition.
The first works on the theme "Hunters" – in German "Hunters" – were created in 2002 in Berlin and show expressive portraits of people "in the market". Self-assertion is paramount for these individuals and is underlined by the expressive depiction of certain sensory organs.
The expressive sensory organs invite a symbolic contemplation of them.
The eyes, for example, as a symbol of goal-oriented action or “directing one’s gaze at something,” are depicted multiple times. The mouth too – as a familiar symbol of communication – can, through its repeated appearance, be interpreted as a “sales organ.” The other sense organs of the portrayed figures are often rendered either simply, with less spatial depth, or transparently. This difference in depiction points to a shift in the perception of these portrayed individuals. The concentrated perception through eyes and mouth leads to a one-sided unleashing of competition and keeps us from acting collectively.
