Out of the Light – Animals in Art – abstract pictures in bright colors

The palette is Source of inspiration and a tool for artists who engage intensively with mixing the perfect colors for their artworks. In "From the Light" typical mixing movements and shapes that appear on the palette are taken up in order to present concrete motifs – an animal can be seen in every painting – in an unusual way. At the same time, compositions are created that allow the viewer to drift off into abstraction. With prolonged viewing, form (animal motif), environment (choice of colors) and palette (symbolism) merge into more abstract sensations such as "chance," "life," "development" and, quite specifically for these animal motifs: "evolution." 

The creation of the paintings in "From the Light."

The idea for the “Aus dem Licht” theme was born while clearing away the palettes of my painting students. For on their paint boxes my “desired” visual language could already be recognized.

The often small-format canvases are primed white. After the drawing of the motif, they are used for “mixing paint.”

The lightness of the paintings arises from the brightness of the white-primed canvases in combination with the colorful, gracefully applied areas of color. These create a stimulating, seemingly random composition. The grace of the forms is crucial for a calm yet lively perception of the composition, as it allows the viewer to change perspective even after looking for a long time. Parts of the color fields determine the shape of the motif, while the colors – in part – convey spatial depth. The magic emerges between reality and abstraction.

Viewing abstract painting together with the animal motif creates an interplay of perception.

Although the painting is experimental, it is still "slowed down" at certain boundaries. The outline of the motif acts as a kind of barrier when mixing the colors. This ensures that the motif remains perceptible in any case. The choice of colors is not entirely random either: the animals are shown in the colors of their surroundings. In this way, spontaneous form and color compositions arise within the framework of a concept. Since the motif is constructed only across part of the boundaries of the color blends, the eye repeatedly shifts back to the abstract overall composition.
