“RE 34” is a work that was not planned, but emerged from the flow of working. It arose from a situation in which paint was applied casually, shifted and then layered over again. What initially seemed merely incidental proved significant enough to be preserved.

The creation of RE 34: From accident to painting

During experimental working phases, paint residues, abrasion and traces accumulated on the surface. These layers were not intended, but they remained. Instead of removing them, they were accepted and carried forward.
In this way, “RE 34” developed step by step – out of chance, without a clear objective, but with growing autonomy.

RE 34 – Condensation on a small surface

At 30 × 24 cm, “RE 34” belongs to the small-format works of the series. This very limitation intensifies the effect of the color layers. Muted greens and blues meet violet and earthy accents. The surface appears soft yet resistant – as if every movement had inscribed itself.
The painting calls for a calm gaze and reveals its depth only up close.

When the incidental gains significance

“RE 34” is exemplary of the idea that what seems incidental often contains the essential. The work draws its life from its openness and from the fact that it does not prescribe a single, definitive reading.
It is a quiet painting that does not explain, but leaves space – for perception, memory and personal association.

A quiet contribution to the series “Remnants of an Experiment”

Within the series, “RE 34” takes on a reserved position. It does not push itself to the fore, but resonates over time. It is precisely in this calm that the work unfolds its presence and organically fits into the concept of the “Remnants of an Experiment.”
