In Output 12, green, turquoise, and violet combine with pink, yellow, and light, almost transparent tones. The individual areas flow into one another, while traces and overlaps of the rapid painting process remain visible.
At the centre, violet and green condense. Towards the edges, the colours become lighter and more open.
The outputs of the Smear Board series arise from a strong contrast: preparing colors, tools and procedure takes significantly more time than the actual painting. Once everything is ready, the image is created within a few minutes.
In this short time, the previously developed order changes. Colors collide, are shifted, layered, or partially revealed again. Corrections are only possible to a limited extent.
In Output 12, the original structure is still present, but it recedes behind the many layers of paint.
The order does not disappear. It becomes part of the picture.
The Schmiertafel begins with a given framework. Colors and positions are prepared, a sequence is defined. In the actual painting process, however, this planning encounters material, speed, and immediate decisions.
What was initially clearly separated can connect. What seemed important can disappear within seconds. Other areas emerge without having been planned beforehand.
In this way, an open, multi-layered abstract painting develops from a pre-planned structure.
One conceptual starting point of the series is communication with systems like ChatGPT: an input is followed by a process and finally an output.
Painting adopts this simple sequence—but without a predictable result. The input can be prepared. The process can be started. But what exactly will appear on the canvas in the end remains open.
The output is visible. Its emergence only in traces.
Output 12 is an original oil painting from my studio in Wiesbaden. This 70 × 50 cm one-of-a-kind work belongs to the Schmiertafel series and combines light colour fields and multi-layered oil painting with a fast, experimental working process.

I have been a freelance painter since 1997. While my work up to 2007 was strongly influenced by expressive painting, my focus today is increasingly on experimental forms of painting.
