Dark color fields between turquoise and red
Output 15 is dominated by dark turquoise, green and blue. Red appears mainly at the edges and in individual areas of the lower half of the painting; violet and lighter colour traces break through the dark centre.
The individual areas are still recognisable, but their boundaries are largely blurred. Colour lies over colour, while individual traces and small irregularities remain on the surface.
Long preparation. Fast painting.
The outputs of the Schmiertafel series arise from a strong temporal contrast. Colors, tools and procedure are carefully prepared. The actual painting then emerges within just a few minutes.
This speed limits control. Prepared areas of color shift, collide, or disappear beneath new layers. Any subsequent correction would change the character of the process.
In Output 15, only part of the original order can still be clearly recognized.
What was prepared remains in the painting – even if it is barely visible.
High-contrast abstract painting in a square format
The square format gives Output 15 a compact basic shape. Within this fixed boundary, dark and luminous colors encounter one another.
Turquoise and green dominate large parts of the surface, while the red at the edges forms a clear counterpoint. In between lie blue, violet, and muted mixed colors.
Order arises less through clear lines than through the relationship between the color fields.
Prompt, process, output
The term Output refers to communication with systems such as ChatGPT: an input leads via a process to a result.
The Schmiertafel transfers this principle to painting. Colors, positions, and sequence form a prepared input. Then a brief material process begins, the course of which cannot be fully controlled.
The finished painting contains the original premise – and at the same time everything that happened to it during its execution.
The output does not show the plan. It shows what has become of it.
Square original painting and contemporary art
Output 15 is an original oil painting from my studio in Wiesbaden. This square one-of-a-kind work, measuring 50 × 50 cm, belongs to the Schmiertafel series and combines dark color fields, strong contrasts and a fast experimental painting process.

I have been a freelance painter since 1997. While my work up to 2007 was strongly shaped by expressive painting, my focus today is increasingly on experimental forms of painting. You can find my personal background as well as an overview of my series of works in the “About us” section.
