Between movement and density
“Hectic Hustle and Bustle” presents a dense, energetic world of colour full of movement. Strong reds, blues, greens and yellows collide, overlap and form a complex web of traces, contrasts and colour fields.
The work was created on an oversized palette that originally served as a tool and here becomes the support for the painting itself. Visible paint residues, reworkings, and spontaneous interventions merge into an independent composition between abstract painting and object art.
Experimental Painting
Like many works in the series “The Palette”, this piece was created without a predetermined motif. The structure of the image developed step by step out of the material itself. New layers of color overlay earlier areas, while chance discoveries become just as important as deliberate decisions.
The result is a work driven by dynamism that makes the creative process visible.
The search for images
The longer you look at the work, the more possible forms and connections appear. Islands of color link up, areas emerge and then disappear again. The eye wanders incessantly through the composition.
The title “Hectic Activity” refers to this constant movement and the multitude of simultaneous events within the image.
Original painting by Mark Hellbusch
This work is a unique piece created in 2026 in the Hellbusch studio in Wiesbaden. The piece belongs to the series “The Palette”, in which painting, relief, and wall object merge into one another.

I have been a freelance painter since 1997 and have worked with a wide variety of themes in painting. While until 2007 I was occupied almost exclusively with expressive painting, today my focus lies more on experimental art. My personal background, as well as almost all artistic themes can be found under “About us.”
