Marsfeld - discover abstract landscape paintings - art from paint residues
This art already carries tension in its name. The outer neighboring planet of Earth was associated with the god of war due to its red color. With their surface, consisting of dried paint remnants and chunks from the palette, these works also visually resemble the geology of the planet Mars.
The word "field," in the sense of ground, play, or employment field, can also be read as a synonym for order. This is how the title of this series is derived: "Field of Mars."
Arrangements of paint remnants create abstract landscape images.
Artworks of the Field of Mars series show abstract landscape images. The modern, often small-format paintings are landscapes—or sections of them—from a bird's eye view. From a great distance, they appear earthy. Only up close can you see the many colorful hues of the dried paints.
"The idea came while sweeping the studio: new from debris. By crushing and shattering old paint remnants, I create fields that remind one of the weathered Mars. On them, fine new orders develop."
The creation of the Field of Mars series.
A paint palette fell and shattered into many pieces. While sweeping them up, the idea came to create abstract images from the paint remnants. For my Field of Mars paintings, I have since used old paint palettes from my art students and shattered them. This creates paint remnants of various sizes, which are sorted by size: fine dust up to 1 cm large paint chunks are selected for the paintings.
The ambiance is modern, the inspirations abstract—paintings from the Field of Mars series.
The canvases are coated with binder. Then they are experimentally worked on, meaning the paint remnants are scattered, sifted, thrown, and also laid onto the canvas—until they reveal a landscape. Thus, through the destruction of something old, something new is created: a fine landscape as an abstract painting. From cause and effect, a title also emerged: "Field of Mars."
In search of a painting that appears both modern and understated, you have made a high-quality choice with the "Field of Mars" works. My Field of Mars artworks are available in different versions and can even be wonderfully combined with each other. Various formats allow you to arrange the very fine, modern paintings in any room as you wish. The small formats fit well in niches but also impress painting next to painting in vertical or horizontal rows. The abstract landscape images are best chosen so that wave structures, crater-like formations, or beach-like artworks alternate.
