"The graceful, random shapes that emerge when mixing colors on the palette serve as inspiration for the motif."

Abstract animals as a motif in art.
The palette is a source of inspiration and a tool for artists who are deeply engaged with mixing the perfect colors for their artworks. In "Out of the Light" typical mixing movements and shapes that emerge on the palette are used to show concrete motifs - each picture features an animal - in an unusual way. At the same time, compositions are constructed that allow the viewer to drift into abstraction. With prolonged viewing, form (animal motif), environment (color choice), and palette (symbolism) link to more abstract sensations like "chance," "life," "development," and specifically for these animal motifs: "evolution."
The creation of the paintings in "Out of the Light."
The idea for the theme "Out of the Light" was born while clearing away the palettes of my painting students. For on their paint boxes, my "desired" visual language was already recognizable.
The often small-format canvases are primed white. After drawing the motif, they are used for "mixing colors."
The lightness of the paintings is created by the brightness of the white-primed canvases combined with the colorful, gracefully applied color fields. These result in an stimulating, seemingly random composition. The grace of the forms is crucial for the calm yet stimulated perception of the composition, as it allows the viewer to change their perspective even after prolonged viewing. Parts of the color fields determine the form of the motif, while the colors - partially - convey the spatiality. The magic arises between reality and abstraction.
The viewing of abstract painting and the animal motif creates an interaction of perception.
The painting is experimental, yet it is "slowed down" at certain boundaries. The outline of the motif acts as a barrier when mixing the colors. This ensures that the motif is perceived. The choice of colors is also not entirely random: the animals are shown in the colors of their environment. This results in spontaneous form and color compositions within a concept. Since the motif is constructed only over part of the boundaries of the color mixtures, the eye repeatedly shifts to the abstract overall composition.
