The abstract landscape as an experiment on canvas.

"Marsfeld XXVI" measures 30 x 24 cm, is made from paint remnants, and originated from an experiment. The paint remnants used for this painting are colorful. Acrylic paints, oil paints, and leftover varnish interact in various combinations of color, shape, and size. The sizes of the paint remnants range from very fine dust to paint chunks about 0.5 cm in diameter. It is the size differences of the paint remnants that allow for a composition. In this case, a landscape with a crater from a bird's-eye view. Below are some key details about the painting.

A crater of paint residue.

From a distance, the work initially appears to depict an earthy or sandy, beach-like surface. As you take a few steps closer to the painting, you realize that it is completely colorful and made up of small remnants of paint. The abstract painting becomes more concrete the longer you observe it: in your mind, wind, water, and eventually the morphology of a crater in the landscape emerge.

The small-format landscape for an inspiring ambiance at home.

"Marsfeld XXVI" is a small painting. It looks best in the hallway, by the stairs, or in a niche in the room. The unusual spatiality - the true haptics (three-dimensional) combined with the contrasts (two-dimensional) - in conjunction with the simple composition creates a very original and interesting effect. The spatial and compositional effect is subtle, giving the painting a very fine, elegant, and stimulating quality.

The 'Mars Fields' seem very elegant in vertical or horizontal rows. This way, even larger spaces can be decorated with the small-format Mars Fields. When hanging pictures side by side, it's important to note that their differences are crucial. A crater that appears yellow-brown from a distance, set between wave-like reddish structures reminiscent of a beach and a grayish-looking whirlpool, is more visually inspiring than several craters of the same size next to each other. These can quickly be overlooked as a pattern.

Also interesting is the price. The images on the theme "Mars Field" are not cheap, but in relation to their quality, they are extremely affordable. For some, this means a relatively risk-free entry into the world of contemporary art. For others, it might be an opportunity to modernize, make smaller spaces interesting, and do so inexpensively. With this type of art, you make a subtle statement. The paint remnants alone, as the defining element of the picture, give your decor something very original. Good to know.

Binder as adhesive.

The special adhesives, the cotton and the binder used for these experiments ensure that the paint residues adhere very well to the canvas. If some paint residues do fall off – perhaps due to transport or curious children's fingers – it's not a big deal: All 'Marsfield' paintings consist of multiple layers so that the canvas remains covered even with minor damage.

Paintings on the website.

I always strive to present an authentic picture of my work on the website. The paintings are photographed either in the studio or next door in the living room. However, the colors you see on your monitor may slightly differ from the actual colors on the painting. The images presenting the painting in the room were generated using the 'Smartist' app. This app displays paintings in the exact correct proportions to the room and can also show artworks with any type of framing.

Art with Leftover Paint and What Moves Me as an Artist

Art with leftover paint isn't accessible to everyone. Nevertheless, the painting can spark curiosity. When the juxtaposition of old (Paint residue) and new (Painting) or the Title "Marsfeld" - consisting of the terms "Mars" and "Field" and incidentally a place of political conflict in ancient Rome - evokes associations, then that moves me as an artist."
