"America" from the series 'At the End Green' depicts a tornado over the American flag. Below, you can see structures that are reminiscent of nature. TheShadows of a low-pressure storm system are intertwined with the American flag, creating an abstract composition that hints at the global failure of climate policy. The contemporary artwork needs good lighting to fully unfold its impact.
Large-format contemporary painting: Between the flag and the low-pressure system, the abstract becomes concrete.
On the red, white, and blue parts of the American flag, you can see curved, dark brown shapes. These shapes resemble clouds. In an abstract form, they show the shadows cast by the clouds of a low-pressure system. Ultimately, they represent the shadows of an enormous, moving hurricane. They appear powerful, dynamic, and at the same time threatening.
The connection between America and nature—both depicted in abstract form—intuitively forces concrete thoughts about our globally failing environmental policies. The abstract is linked with the concrete—climate policy.
Why America?
From my perspective, the Kyoto Protocol was the last significant chance to bring about a general turnaround in international environmental policy. Several European and Asian countries would have been open to new competitive rules if the world's leading economy—the United States—had also been open to them. As has happened several times before, stricter environmental regulations, such as CO2 pricing, have been postponed to some indefinite future date. In times of division and political radicalization, it is hardly conceivable today to think about new, more demanding, globally applicable competitive rules. The momentum is thus lost.
Optimal presentation of modern painting requires a lot of light.
Properly presented, the artworks in the series 'Green in the End' can look very elegant and modern. Unlike high-contrast artworks, this type of painting can only be fully appreciated if the eye can perceive the color depth in combination with the fine structures in all their details. Enough light is really necessary. A wall that is at least bright during the day or a spotlight can help bring out the painting's elegant appearance to the fullest.
Complex structures in painting: the priming of the artwork.
The priming was built up from thick, colorful layers of oil paint. Additionally, leaves and branches, as well as their imprints, can be seen everywhere. This creates an organic texture that remains—sometimes clearly, sometimes subtly—after the painting is completed. After drying, the primed paintings are sanded with sandpaper. Only then does the actual painting on the artwork begin.
Interesting facts about the painting 'America.'
Despite its many colors, the painting 'America' is rather subtle in its effect and can be enjoyed both from a distance (perception of spatiality) and up close (structure and color variety).
The glazes in the painting ensure a high color depth.
The painting 'America' is signedand the edges, which are 8 cm deep, are also painted in stripes. The artwork can thus be immediately displayed with just two nails in the wall. The painting has already been varnished. If you prefer to have a frame made for the painting, I recommend visiting a specialty store near you.
The presentation of the artwork is authentic but not perfect.
The photos you see above were taken by me to the best of my ability. Since I am not a professional photographer, the colors you see may slightly differ from the original. Here and there, the lighting or resolution could certainly be better. I strive to provide an authentic image of the artworks. Therefore, neither contrasts nor colors are altered during editing. Only the exposure is adjusted so that the white wall around the painting actually appears white before cropping.
The photos showing the painting in a room were generated using the 'Smartist' app. This app can frame photographed paintings and allows for a neat, stylish presentation in different rooms. The size ratio of the painting to the room is accurately depicted. The lighting conditions from room to painting do not match, but it can still be helpful to see how the painting might look in your home.
