Expressive Art with Oil Paints: A Powerful Portrait.
The artwork "Fiona" depicts a girl standing in front of a bare, undecorated wall. In stark contrast to her doll-like narrow shoulders is her determined gaze. The pleasant words from her mouth strain her and distort her face. She looks pale, her nose is easily overlooked. However, her hairstyle, eyes, and mouth are depicted with full dimensionality. Her eyes and mouth appear almost mobile: Fiona could be the image of a very young, ambitious intern who wants little in life besides a career.
The portrait "Fiona" consistently inspires owners and viewers to engage in conversation: there's also a (playful) sense of competition in it.
Preparations for Painting
The portrait "Fiona" was created in Berlin in 2004 on a canvas stretched over double (but offset) stretcher frames. The lower stretcher frames form a rectangle of 130 x 120 cm, while the upper ones form a parallelogram of approximately 120 x 110 cm. This creates a subtly perplexing surface, fitting for the portrait.
Facts About "Fiona"
The Portrait "Fiona" Founded in Berlin in 2005. It holds no personal significance for me, but like almost all portraits in Hunter's series, it came into my possession by chance. An advertisement, an info brochure, a report—portraits are shown everywhere. Some of them spark thoughts on the theme of 'competition' in me, which I then use.
